After a slab design, the design engineer prepares reinforcement markups, which are normally given to a draftsman to draw in AutoCAD or Revit. Most consultancies now add these markups digitally to PDF plans in tools like Bluebeam Revu, where they can be kept on the computer and modified as required.

The draftsman uses the markups to draw the reinforcement, and the design engineer then back-checks the drawing, often over several iterations. It needs a significant amount of time to do this process.

Reinf2CAD reads the PDF markups and generates a DXF file that can be imported into AutoCAD. Automatic drawing of reinforcement in a Revit drafting view is planned.
